At Ningaloo, whale shark season has just kicked off and, as usual, the Coral Coast doesn’t disappoint. We’re having epic days out at the Reef! From swimming with whale sharks, nature’s gentlest giants, to snorkelling an underwater paradise and scuba diving with an explosion of colourful fish and marine life, our tours personify everything that makes Ningaloo one of the world’s most unique aquatic playgrounds. Watch out for dolphins riding the bow wave of our boats … they’re Exmouth’s friendliest tour guides!
While undoubtedly, the waters of World-heritage listed Ningaloo Marine Park are the main drawcard to Exmouth for visitors from all over the world, there’s much more to Exmouth than the wonders of the Reef. Attractions and experiences along the North West Cape are as diverse and extensive as the region itself, so it’s well worth spending a few nights in Exmouth to enjoy everything this remarkable part of Western Australia has to offer.
There are few places to rival Exmouth as an adventure-holiday destination. Whether you’re travelling as a family, on honeymoon, seeking adventure, or simply wanting to immerse yourself in nature for the ultimate escape, there’s an activity and experience to appeal to everyone regardless of age and ability. Here’s our list of top things to see and do while you’re in Exmouth. There’s something to suit every taste, pace and budget.
Get the full ‘range to reef’ experience while you’re in Exmouth with a visit to Cape Range National Park. Hang up your wetsuit, and strap on your hiking boots to explore natural assets such as dramatic gorges and canyons, native flora and fauna, and awe-inspiring views. Bushwalking trails range in duration, with popular tracks including Mandu Mandu Gorge, Pilgonoman Gorge, Charles Knife Canyon, and Shothole Canyon. You can also take a leisurely boat cruise along the protected waters of Yardie Creek. Stop off at the Milyering Visitor’s Centre to learn more about the park and its many attractions.
Three of the world’s seven marine turtle species nest on the mainland beaches and islands of Ningaloo Reef during the summer months from November to March. Jurabi Turtle Centre is the best place to view turtles without disturbing them or interfering with their natural nesting activity. An educational, informative and popular attraction for the whole family, that gets the big conservational tick from us.
Take to the air for an incredible bird’s eye view of Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef, and Cape Range National Park. The Coral Coast is as unforgettable from the air, as it is from the water! Admire the crystal waters of Turquoise Bay and other secluded beaches, and marvel at the rugged North West coastline, ancient limestone cliffs and canyons as you fly over Cape Range National Park. We’ve got you covered when it comes to in-water experiences, but for the chance to spot whale sharks, humpback whales, and manta rays from the air, book a charter flight to experience a different perspective.
Exmouth is a fisherman’s paradise! The North West Cape is a dream sports fishing destination. Try your hand at landing a marlin, sailfish, mackerel or tuna. Coral trout, spangled emperor, bluebone tuskfish, mangrove jack, trevally, and queenfish are also in abundance, with numerous fishing and charter boat tours available to suit first timers through to experienced game fishermen. The GAMEX fishing tournament is an Exmouth calendar highlight held annually in March.
If you’re travelling to a timeframe it’s worthwhile planning your itinerary around the many Exmouth and Ninglaoo experiences to maximise your trip.
